Maneka, Varun missing from list of BJP star campaigners for UP

Thursday, 28 March 2024 | PNS | Lucknow

The Bharatiya Janata Party has revealed the list of its star campaigners for the first phase of Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh, comprising a prominent lineup of leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union minister Smriti Irani among 40 others.

However, notable omissions from the list include Maneka Gandhi and Varun Gandhi, with Varun Gandhi’s ticket from Pilibhit also being canceled. Additionally, the name of Kaiserganj MP Brijbhushan Sharan Singh is also missing from the list.

In a surprising move, the list of campaigners features chief ministers from other states, including Mohan Yadav (Madhya Pradesh, Bhajan Lal Sharma (Rajasthan), and Pushkar Singh Dhami (Uttarakhand).

The list also has names of 12 ministers from Uttar Pradesh, including Swatantradev Singh, Dharampal Singh and Jaiveer Singh. Two Muslim leaders, former Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and UP Minister of State for Minority Welfare Danish Azad, have also been designated as star campaigners. Renowned actress and Mathura MP Hema Malini will also be part of the campaigning efforts.

Further additions to the list include Agra MP SP Singh Baghel, Rajya Sabha member BL Verma and Muzaffarnagar MP Sanjeev Balyan, along with Durvijay Singh Shakya, who holds the position of party’s regional president of the Braj region and is a candidate from Budaun. Additionally, MLC Subhash Yaduvansh has been named as a star campaigner.

Conspicuously absent from the list are former deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma, Satpal Maharaj, Trivendra Singh Rawat, Mahendra Nath Pandey and others.
