Three siblings, including two girls, drowned in a pond at a village in Chhattisgarh’s Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi (GPM) district on Sunday.

The incident occurred this          afternoon in Bahuta Dol village in the Marwahi police station limits when the victims’ parents were busy with work at their farm and the children went to a nearby small pond (dabri) to take bath, GPM Additional Superintendent of Police Archana Jha said.

Tulsi Singh, his wife and their  children Chandni (16), Sudhar (11) and Bhagwati (8), residents of nearby Patharri village, had arrived at Bahuta Dol for farming work, she said.

When the couple found the              children missing for a long time, they started searching for them and spotted their clothes on the bank of the water body, the officer added.

They then called other villagers who fished out the children from the pond. Meanwhile, a police team also reached the spot on being alerted about it and the children were shifted to Marwahi community health centre where they were declared dead, the ASP said.
