Former Haryana CM Khattar, CM Nayab Saini file nomination papers

Tuesday, 07 May 2024 | PNS | Chandigarh

On the last day of the nominations for the Lok Sabha Elections and Karnal Bypolls, former Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, senior Congress leader Jai Prakash and Krishan Pal Gurjar on Monday filed their nominations from Karnal, Hisar and Faridabad Constituencies respectively. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini also submitted his nomination papers for Karnal Assembly bypoll, necessitated by the resignation of his predecessor Khattar, who also filed his papers for the Karnal parliamentary seat.

Ahead of filing their nomination papers before the returning officer in Karnal, Saini and Khattar took out a roadshow in Karnal in an open decorated vehicle. Talking to reporters during the roadshow, Chief Minister Saini said, "There is an overwhelming public support. The BJP is getting huge support not just in Karnal but everywhere. I can say that in Haryana, eleven 'lotuses' (the BJP's poll symbol) will bloom. We will win with a big mandate."

He further said the country has moved ahead on the path of progress during the past 10 years under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "If we compare Karnal of 2014 with the present-day Karnal then we can see a big difference. The double-engine government has undertaken a lot of development in the country and in the state," said Saini.

Saini is up against Congress rival Tarlochan Singh in the Karnal assembly bypolls. Khattar's rival for the Lok Sabha seat is Haryana Youth Congress president Divyanshu Budhiraja.

BJP’s Kishan Pal Gujjar also filed his nominations from Faridabad LoK Sabha Constituency. Haryana Cabinet Minister Mool Chand Sharma and other leaders were present on the occasion. Congress party has fielded Mahender Pratap Singh from Faridabad.

In the presence of former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Haryana Congress President Chaudhary Udaibhan, Congress Hisar Lok Sabha candidate Jai Prakash filed his nomination papers. BJP candidate Ranjit Singh Chautala is contesting Lok Sabha Election from Hisar.

Speaking on the occasion during a public rally in Hisar, Hooda said as much anger is there among the public towards BJP, there is equal enthusiasm for Congress. Only criminals, corrupt people and drug dealers are happy with the present government. The rest of the public is completely fed up with the policies and functioning of BJP,” he said.

Hooda said that BJP, which is going among the public to seek votes, does not have a single achievement to show before the people, nor does it have any roadmap for the future, whereas Congress is seeking votes in the name of its development works and manifesto.

“Congress promises that when the government is formed, 30 lakh youth in the Center and more than 2 lakh youth in Haryana will get permanent jobs as per their qualifications, without any paper leak. Besides, farmers will be given a guarantee of MSP and freedom from debt,” he promised.

“State employees will get an old pension scheme and elderly people will get RS 6000 old age pension. Congress has also promised to provide 300 units of free electricity and gas cylinders for Rs 500 in the state. The Congress manifesto also promises 50% reservation in jobs for women and Rs 1 lakh annually. All the communities are supporting this progressive and welfare driven manifesto of Congress,” he added and said that this victory in the Lok Sabha elections will lay the foundation of the Congress government not only in the Center, but also in Haryana.

On the occasion, Jai Prakash raised slogans of ‘25 Mai- BJP Gai’. He said all Congressmen will have to work at the grassroots level with full readiness and vigilance till May 25, taking the resolutions of the Congress to every home should be the priority of every Congressman.

“BJP wants to end the reservation and rights of Dalits, backward people and the poor. All communities will have to unite and respond to BJP. Unity, solidarity and brotherhood is the mantra of Congress's victory. Congress's victory is necessary to provide MSP to farmers, employment to youth and security to traders,” he stated.
