Panic gripped locals after an LPG tanker overturned on National Highway-16 near Khallikote in Ganjam district on Sunday.
While the driver of the tanker suffered injuries, a major disaster was averted after the tanker overturned all of a sudden.
According to reports, the tanker was on its way from Vishakhapatnam to Khordha when it turned turtle about 400 meters from the Khallikote police station.
Police closed the road and diverted traffic as a precautionary measure to avert any mishap.
Getting information, Fire Service personnel along with LPG company officials also rushed to the spot with the necessary equipments.
The injured driver, identified as Manoj Kumar Yadav, was admitted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Khallikote.
People living in nearby areas panicked following the incident, but officials told them not to be concerned as all precautionary measures were taken.
