Man dies after falling into open drain

Friday, 05 April 2024 | PNS | CUTTACK

A man died by falling into an open drain in the Mahima Nagar area under CRRI police station in Cuttack city on Thursday. The deceased was identified as a resident of Jajpur and was working as a mason in the city.

As per reports, slabs have been removed and the drain was left open for the ongoing construction work in the area. As a result, the victim fell into the drain while returning home in the evening after finishing his work.

His body was recovered from the drain on Thursday morning after locals informed police who eventually recovered the body.

Following the incident, tension prevailed in the area as irate locals expressed their resentment over the development. They alleged that such incidents are frequently happening due to the indifferent attitude of the administration.

“Though the drain has been left open for around a month and commuters are facing a lot of trouble, the district administration and the Cuttack Municipal Corporation are not paying any attention to the ordeal of the people,” the locals alleged.
