Anti-Dalit SP should worry about fate of Yadav kin: Mayawati

Thursday, 09 May 2024 | PNS | Lucknow

Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati on Wednesday reacted strongly to Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav’s comments on removing her nephew Akash Anand from the party’s national coordinator post.

She advised the SP chief to worry about his own family members contesting parliamentary elections instead of taking interest in others.

“It would be better if the extremely anti-Dalit SP does not comment or worry about what is going on in the BSP organisation. Instead, the SP leadership should only worry about the condition of their own family and the candidates of the Yadav community fielded in the elections because all of them are in a bad state,” Mayawati commented on social media platform `X’.

“The conduct, character and face of the SP, as always, is that of a party which is strongly opposed to the rights of Dalits, extremely backward classes and reservations given to them in the Constitution. Ending reservation in promotions and tearing the bill in this regard in Parliament are such acts of theirs which are difficult to forgive,” the former chief minister of UP stated.

Along with this, changing the names of districts, parks, universities etc. named in UP in the name of great saints, gurus and great men born in the Bahujan samaj by the BSP government in honour of them due to casteist thinking are such acts of the SP government which are recorded in history as black deeds, she added while reacting strongly to SP chief’s comments.

It may be mentioned that though the opposition targets Mayawati over removing her nephew Akash Anand from all posts and accuses her of taking this action at behest of Bharatiya Janata Party, sources say that Mayawati has killed the proverbial two birds with one stone – she has refuted all charges of nepotism and also pacified Dalits, who did not appreciate her diatribe against the BJP. Now whatever criticism Mayawati faces from rivals for promoting nepotism in the BSP by bringing in Akash Anand, has been washed away by her decision to punish him for his “immaturity”.

“Parties like Congress, Samajwadi Party and Rashtriya Janata Dal that thrive on nepotism can no longer accuse the BSP of following in their footsteps. The BSP supremo is not dependent on her family and does not promote nepotism, unlike the Gandhis and Yadavs. Behenji (Mayawati) has proved it,” said a BSP functionary.

By removing her nephew from the key party post, Mayawati has ensured that she does not burn her bridges with the ruling BJP. Earlier, Mayawati had moved swiftly to control the damage done by her protege and cancelled Akash Anand’s rallies and asked him to avoid public appearances. When public anger did not subside, Mayawati finally removed her political heir from all posts of the party on Tuesday night.
