BJP's Hans, Congress' Zira file nominations

Chandigarh:  BJP candidate from the Faridkot seat Hans Raj Hans and Congress nominee from the Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha seat Kulbir Singh Zira on Thursday filed their nominations. Hans, who filed his papers in Faridkot district, was accompanied by Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. Sitting MP from North West Delhi seat, Hans is pitted against AAP's Karamjit Anmol, Congress party's Amarjit Kaur Sahoke and Shiromani Akali Dal nominee Rajwinder Singh from the Faridkot reserve seat. Earlier, former MLA and Congress candidate Zira filed his papers in Tarn Taran district. Zira was accompanied by his family members when he filed his papers. From Khadoor Sahib seat, Zira will face AAP's Laljit Singh Bhullar, BJP candidate Manjit Singh Manna Mianwind, radical preacher Amritpal Singh and SAD's Virsa Singh Valtoha. The nomination process for the Lok Sabha polls in Punjab began on Tuesday. It will continue till May 14 while the scrutiny of papers will take place on May 15 and the last date for the withdrawal of nominations is May 17.


Voter awareness walkathon in Karnal on May 12

 Chandigarh: Additional Deputy Commissioner, Karnal, Akhil Pilani on Thursday said that a voter awareness walkathon will be organized by a private institution on May 12 at 6 am from the NDRF Chowk. In this walkathon, several players, students, and representatives of organizations will participate.  Pilani said, “To fulfill the objective of voting, private organizations are now coming forward to cooperate along with the administration. The aim is to ensure maximum voter turnout in the Karnal Lok Sabha constituency and Karnal Assembly by-elections.” He said the administration is also cooperating in this program, and duty has been assigned to different departments, including the District Higher Education Department inviting colleges, NCC cadets, NSS volunteers, as well as players from the Sports Department, and NGOs from the Red Cross Society.  He said that voting for the Lok Sabha elections in Haryana will take place on May 25. However, in Karnal, along with the Lok Sabha elections, voting for the Karnal Assembly by-elections will also take place on May 25.


No nominations on third day in Chandigarh

Chandigarh: The Nomination process for the Chandigarh Parliamentary Constituency, which began on May 7 has seen no nominations so far.  During the nomination filing process, candidates are reminded of various instructions provided by the Election Commission of India, including the mandatory display of printer and publisher information on election materials, as per Section 127A of the RP Act, 1951. A statement said the candidates are also reminded of their responsibility to maintain accurate records of election-related expenditures, as per Section 78 of the RP Act 1951, with submissions due within thirty days from the declaration of results to the District Election Officer UT, Chandigarh. For transparency and public awareness, the affidavits of all candidates have been uploaded on the ECI portal and can be accessed through various platforms, including the Voter Helpline App, Know Your Candidate app (KYC), and affidavit.eci.gov.in.
