Chandan to lead State leg Cricket team

Bhubaneswar: Chandan Ray will lead the 15-member State team in the forthcoming 5th National T20 leg Cricket Championship schedule to held at Mathura in Uttar Pradesh from May 21 to 23. Chandan will be assist by Tushar Mehar as his deputy. The team will proceed from Jharsuguda for the meet on May 19 while Niranjan Mahakur and Ranjit Mishra will accompany the team as coach and manager respectively.  The sport that has recently gained much popularity will see 10 teams participating Delhi, Maharashtra, Vidharba, Odisha, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir. Captain of National U-19 team, Bargarh boy Chandan Ray who led the victory against Nepal in the International series against Nepal in 2013 will head the domestic leg Cricket team from Odisha as captain. “We have worked hard this year and hope to bring the trophy to our home state. Action-filled and affordable, this sport needs encouragement of various sport bodies in the state”, says Chandan Ray. Pragati to meet Town in U-14 Cricket final

Bhubaneswar: Pragati Sporting will face Town Club in the final of the Arabinda Memorial U-14 (T-20) Cricket Tournament at Paramount Ground here on Wednesday. In the semifinals on Tuesday, all-round performance by Ayush Barik who bagged two wickets and contributed unbeaten 27 guided Pragati Sporting into the final by defeating host Paramount Sporting by six wickets.  Ayush Barik and Subham Nayak of the winning team received the man of the match and best fielder prizes respectively. In another match, Aswini Mohapatra’s  55-ball unbeaten 71 run helped Town Club to edge out Jagruti Cricket Academy by 25 runs. While team entered the final and Asiwini adjudged as man of the match.

Brief Score: Paramount Sporting 95/10 in 19.5 overs (Sudarshan Swain 27, Abhishek Parida 22; Ayush Kumar Barik 2/12, Sarthak Sourav Kumar 2/27) lost to Pragati Sporting 99/4 in 19.4 overs (Spandan Mohanty 28, Ayush Kumar Barik 27 n.o;) by 6 wkts. Town Club 143/4 in 20 overs (Aswini Mohapatra 71 n.o; Binayak Mohanty 37; Rohan Kumar Muduli 2/21) beat Jagruti Cricket Academy 118/7 in 20 overs (Spandan Mohanty 42, Subharan Shu 40; Anju Mahasupakar 3/23, Binayak Mohanty 2/15) by  25 runs.

Hockey Odisha journey ends in Nat’l Sub-Jr event

Bhubaneswar: In the last league round match on Tuesday, Hockey Odisha registered their first victory against Hockey Patiala, out of three  league round matches of the  6th National Sub-Junior Div-A Hockey Championship at Imphal in Manipur on Tuesday. Hockey Odisha placed in the Pool-A along with Uttar Pradesh Hockey, Manipur Hockey and Hockey Patiala. Odisha registered one win, one drew and a defeat to complete their league round campaign. Odisha suffered defeat from Uttar Pradesh by 0-3. While drew with Manipur Hockey by 3-3 and registered victory against Hockey Patiala by 2-1 goals.
