Spooky affair

A dark romantic thriller with a love triangle between two humans and a spirit. Namik Paul, Donal Bisht and Vikram Singh Chauhan spoke to Kritika Dua about the unique show

Ek Deewaana Tha is a thriller love story with a supernatural element added to it. Namik Paul, one of the main leads is essaying the role of a spirit (Shiv) who is still in love with  Donal Bisht (Sharanya). While Bisht and Vikram Singh Chauhan (Vyom) will be seen as lovers in this love triangle. The show will also have the popular face Delnaaz Irani, known for her role Sweetu in Kal Ho Naa Ho as an expert in paranormal activities. And Amar Upadhyay of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi fame will play the role of Ranjan Bedi. The story revolves around the  relentless lover turned spirit who will be seen driving a wedge between the two people leading to interesting turn of events.

The show has everything working right for it, with an amalgamation of elements — thrill, supernatural, drama, paranormal activities, romance, action and special effects. Talking about his character Vikram said, “Vyom is a rich guy who has everything in his life including love. All of a sudden a spirit enters his life and creates a ruckus in his smooth love life. As the the story progresses, the spirit’s identity will be revealed and so will be the reason behind him causing problems in their life.”

Donal said that Sharanya is a strong girl who wants to find the truth behind the love triangle. “I am playing a positive character who is bubbly and wants to make everybody around her happy. She definitely doesn’t want to be the reason of stress for others and wants to find what is happening with her without affecting others.” Namik who is the unhappy spirit feels that with less dialogues, acting will be more challenging as it will require a lot of strong expressions.

While certain television series fails to deliver the scary element of a ghost, turing it into a comic one, this show is all prepared to get things right. “We are trying to present the ghost in a right manner – playing with light. So, it doesn’t appear comic or forced. We trying to set the tone visually so as he doesn’t appear like a complete evil. The spirit will definitely have makeup on but to make sure it looks realistic, we have used VFX,” added Namik.

The former co-stars Namik and Nikita of Ek Duje Ke Vaaste will be seen competing with each other on the same channel with their respective shows. However, Namik said that their is no competition between the two. “We have different time slots. I hope their show does well, and ours also.”
