Punjab’s Rajpura will soon be an industrial hub with the State Government deciding to give 1000 acres of land in the industrial town for setting up a Japanese township.
Already housing number of large-scale industries like Hindustan Unilever HUl, the Congress Government is planning to revive industry in this industrial town in a novel way
“The Government has proposed to give 1000 acres of land to the Japanese company, and that would further woo other Japanese firms, provide all facilities required to set up their industries there,” a senior Government official said,sharing Government’s plans to develop industrial sector.
The official, requesting anonymity, said that the Government is ready with the agreement and that may be signed in the coming days.
It has been learnt that the State Government had offered sites at Rajpura (in Patiala) for electronic park with a Japanese anchor unit, Mattewara in ludhiana for automobile park with Japanese anchor unit, Sundra in Dera Bassi for pharma park with Japanese anchor unit and Amritsar for food processing park with Japanese anchor unit.
Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh had also, last year, proposed setting up of a Japanese Industrial Township to the visiting Japanese envoy, and sought the country’s cooperation in small and medium enterprise, preferably in the manufacturing sector.
He had proposed the Anchor Company as well as SME units from Japan saying that all these sites were good on account of accessibility to customers, infrastructure, water, road, logistics,land acquisition, leasing or pricing, single window resource, quality labour availability, and liveability for expats (quality residence, school, clinic, golf course).
An industrial town, Rajpura already has number of large-scale industries like Hindustan Unilever HUl (formerly known as Hll), Bunge India Private limited, Siel Chemicals limited, Alliance Metaliks Integrated limited (AMTEK GROUP), Amber Enterprises limited, Sahni Chemicals and Sai Home Products among others.
Besides, the town has large number of small-scale industries like rice shellers, biomass briquette machinery, soap factories, household manufacturers, biscuit machines industry and steel works.
The official said that the positive point of Rajpura is that it is situated at the junction of National Highway-1 which runs from New Delhi to Attari in Punjab and also National Highway-64 which runs from Chandigarh to Dabwali which make it a good distribution centre.
“As all road and rail transport goes through Rajpura for the routes going to other major cities of Punjab as well as Jammu and Kashmir, it is also known as ‘Gateway of Punjab’,” added the official.
He added that it also has proximity to main towns like Chandigarh, Patiala, Zirakpur and Ambala.
The official said that Rajpura is now emerging as warehousing and logistics hub of the State with many companies and MNCs having their dedicated warehouses here.
These companies include Tata Teleservices, Bharti Walmart, ITC, Airtel, Aircel, HUl, Castrol, Nokia-Siemens.
