JIFFA concludes with supplementary awards

The Jharkhand International Film Festival Awards (JIFFA) today formally came to an end with the Supplementary Awards Ceremony organised to felicitate those artists who had missed the three-day fest recently held here. In a moderately small get-together the supplementary awards ceremony was organised at the Ranchi Press club here on Thursday, where 42 film personalities from Jharkhand were given the JIFFA awards.

Nagpuri musical exponent, Mukund Nayak, was the Chief Guest on the occasion. While addressing the audience, Chairperson of the JIFFA, Rishi Prakash Mishra mentioned that more than 100 guests appeared for the ceremony that started on May 27, 2018, including people from Poland, Iran, Russia and America. Being the first international film festival in Jharkhand, he said that the event was a huge success considering the turn out of the artists and cinema lovers.

The first award was given to Gautam Singh for his film Gaon, in the category of Best Feature Film in Khortha language. The film is based on the story of a village that wants the facilities of the modern world but without the complexities that come with it. “He wants to dedicate this award to his parents”, said his PRO Ashraf Hussain.

Satish Pai amd Rahul Tigga received the award in the category of Best Director for Children for the short film, PumPum, that was released in 2017, for their cinematography and editing, respectively. “I ask the government to help the filmmakers in Ranchi, who have the potential for international filmmaking but do not have sufficient funds”, said Satish Pai during his speech.

Tej Mundu, the winner for the Best Music Composer in Nagpuri Music, started his career in music thirty five years ago and received this award for his contribution towards music in Jharkhand throughout his lifetime. Filmmaker Vinod Kumar won an award for his film Aakrant, which is almost three decades old, made in the year 1988. Other than that, The Best Cinematographer Award was received by Sandip Kulshetra, the Best Jury Award for Documentary Hindi Film was received by Raju Soni for his film, Dance Dosti and School and Sanjay lal, who is from National school of Drama (NSD), received the Award for 365 Plays in a Year.

The three-day event –JIFFA - was organised for the first time in Jharkhand attended by a host of celebrities from Bollywood, international filmstars, foreign envoys and eminent personalities of India and abroad. Ramesh Sippy, Ravi Kishan, Film Director, Screenwriter and Producer Mahesh Bhatt and several other celebrities were present during the awards.
