Tiger reportedly kills, eats youth in Haldwani forests

A tiger is reported to have killed a youth who had gone to collect firewood in the jungle of Haldwani forest division. Body parts of the youth were found later during search in the woods.

According to sources, the 23-year old youth had gone to the jungle in Chela range on Friday morning when he was reportedly attacked by the big cat.Forest department personnel came to know of the youth not having returned from the jungle till the afternoon.

Department staff and villagers searched for the youth and reportedly found a portion of his head and some flesh. Based on the slippers and torn clothes found at the site, he was identified by his brother as Kishan Ram.

According to sources, when forester Bhupal Pandey and other staff were going for duty in the jungle, they spotted slippers and an axe near the path.

They went further into the woods and discovered the body of a youth with its head missing.They then called other department staff but by the time they returned to the site, the tiger had reportedly eaten the body leaving only the head. The local allege that five people have been killed by a tiger during two years in this region. The senior officers concerned could not be contacted by this correspondent for their comments as they were reported to be in the forest area where communication was not possible.
