The hype and the wait for the last of the Avenger series came to an end and what an end it’s been. The fans of the movie will tell you that this is not the end just a change of what is to follow next for the Marvel Comics in the future. But in Ironman’s words: “Part of the journey is the end.” We all knew that Avengers: Endgame would be the culmination of things that began back in 2008 when the first Ironman movie was out. Since then there have been 22 of them.

And how does this one fare on the list? Believe it or not it is a bittersweet love letter to all Marvel fans. This means that one must carry a box of tissues. Anything more will be a spoiler for all those who have yet to see it. Despite it being a tear-jerker, there is a sense of satisfaction in the closure even though one will be saying goodbye to some of the characters. It makes sure that the time spent on watching all the series was worth it.

The fans will not agree because of the adage — the more the merrier — but the truth is that one would have preferred if Anthony Russo and Joe Russo would have spent so much time in building up to the climax. Though there are some fun moment to it like the pot-bellied Thor and his drunken stupor. Yes, you read that right — Thor with a pot-belly and a drinking problem, alongside a sweet and funny inarticulation. The reference to Rocket as a raccoon, who gets angsty because he has to give control of his ship to Hawkeye, evokes laughter as well. Then there are some emotional moments too, the back stories of all the left-over super heroes. The little snag is that the superhero action kicks in rather late into this three-plus hour saga. But that doesn’t take away from the gravitas of the individual stories.

Another do over for the Russo brothers could have been to give each superhero some more screen presence given the fact that the film is about getting them back to life and into business. Sadly, some of the heroes have nothing much to showcase and you are left bereft, especially when you have tasted their awesome powers, and that includes Thanos.

So, what next?  Spider Man-Far From Home is slated to release this July. This means phase 4 of Marvel Cinematic Universe kicks in.
