Saturday, 07 September 2019 | Divya Modi | Ranchi

Nagpuri film ‘Phulmania’ was today released in the State capital. The movie has been directed and produced by Lal Vijay Shahdeo hailing from Lohardaga. The film has received a lot of mixed opinions from the movie buffs in Ranchi.

Dealing with social issues from Jharkhand, the movie is based on witch hunting- practiced in the remote areas, gender discrimination and female infertility narrated from a women’s perspective. The female lead played by Komal Singh is a Ranchi girl.

“The movie deals with some very serious issues and will help to curb practices like witch hunting by creating awareness. The makers should have publicised the movie a little more especially in the rural areas. It should also be shown in more theatres. The government can also declare it tax free in the State. Though the dialogues are very strong and powerful, the language used in the movie is very simple making it easy for everyone to understand,” said social worker Ajit Linda.

Tej Mundu, a sound engineer by profession is of the opinion that the movie had a lot of twists and turns. “In the beginning the film deals with witch hunting and later moves on to surrogacy and female infertility. There are a lot of twists in the movie and the residents of Jharkhand might not accept it. The sound and picture quality is very good as compared to other Nagpuri movies. On the whole, even though the story is complicated, it is an entertaining movie but the script is a little weak.”

During the premiere, Sarna committee chairman Phoolchand Tirkey was present with other members. Supporting the social issues portrayed in the film Tirkey said that it is commendable how these practices have been dealt with in the movie. He further added that movies which showcase the culture and folk music of Jharkhand should be made here. The committee will promote the film in the entire State.

Shahdeo said that the movie has been released in other states as well and has received very positive reviews. He also hoped that the film will play a very important role in establishing the Nagpuri film industry in the State.

Releasing partner Anand Lohia said that this film has made way for distribution in Ranchi. Producer Nitu Aggarwal said that seeing the audience’s enthusiasm, the film will be released in many more cinema halls very soon. The movie has a lot of local artists and this is the first time a Nagpuri film has been released at a multiplex.

Shahdeo is of the opinion that women and youngsters should watch this movie. “Films like Phulmania are rarely made. Women and especially the youth of Jharkhand should make it a point to watch this movie,” added the director.
