The IT Ministry digital arm, Common Service Centres (CSC) has partnered with TransUnion CIBIL Limited to provide rural consumers a CIBIL Score through its network of over 3.61 lakh CSCs across the country. This will allow citizens, especially in rural areas where CSC has over 2.5 lakh centres, to access bank loans quickly for their entrepreneurial and personal needs.A CIBIL score is essentially an assessment of an individual’s credit worthiness and financial health which is used as an indicator for providing loans and credit services.
Besides enabling a citizen to get the CIBIL score, the CSC VLE will also help in creating the advocacy for explaining the relevance of a good credit score to rural folks.
This will bring a significant behavioural change, necessary for improving the credit ratio especially in States like Bihar and UP. “Customers in rural communities lack awareness about the CIBIL Score and do not have access to their credit worthiness. A good credit score can also be used by a customer to bargain for a better interest rate. In some cases the customer want to dispute the score and therefore can raise such queries through CSC,†said CSC CEO Dr Dinesh Tyagi.
