2 Odisha actors in lead roles in Bollywood movie

Thursday, 16 July 2020 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

For the first time, two actors from Odisha will play lead roles in a Bollywood movie.

After Anketa Maharana aka Apsara Rani, another actor from the State is making headlines by debuting in Ram Gopal Varma’s upcoming project ‘Thriller’. Hailed from Nabarangpur district, model-turned-actor Rock Kacchi will be seen in lead role opposite of Apsara Rani. The debutant is currently staying in Kolhapur of Maharashtra.

Introducing the newcomer, Varma said Rock is another talent whom he has discovered from Odisha after Apsara.

“Thanks to Apsara Rani, I realised about Odisha. And now I discovered another talent from the State called Rock and I cast him opposite Apsara Rani in Thriller,” RGV tweeted while sharing a few pictures of both actors from a photo shoot.

Notably, RGV had recently landed in a controversy for his ‘insensitive’ remarks on Odisha while hailing Apsara Rani. In a series of tweets, he claimed that he had never thought of Odisha as a talent hub for film industry and he did not even hear about the State since the 1999 Super Cyclone.

His remarks triggered an outcry with many people bashing him on social media platforms.
