Music director Shantiraj dies of Covid

Cuttack: Noted music director of Odisha Shantiraj Khosla succumbed to Covid-19 at the SCB Medical College Hospital here on Thursday, family sources said. He was 50. Khosla had tested positive for the virus recently and was admitted to the Covid Hospital at the SCB. He breathed his last while undergoing treatment.

Ex-OAS officer Siba Prasad passes away

Bhubaneswar: Former OAS officer Siba Prasad Misra passed away at his Rajendra Vihar Apartment residence here on May 22. Born to late Agadhu Misra and late Parbati of Buguda, Ganjam, in 1942, he was son-in-law of Jagannath cult researcher late Prof Gouri Kumar Bramha and grand son-in-law of late poet Godabarish Mohapatra. Late Misra’s role as Deputy Secretary in the office of late Chief Minister JB Patnaik was well appreciated. His strict adherence to honesty, integrity and dedication earned him respect from all quarters. After his retirement, he engaged himself for the development of the community in his apartment. He is survived by his wife Kabita, sons Swadesh and Swaraj, daughter Swadhina.

Biren Mitra's 43rd death anniversary observed

Cuttack: Former Chief Minister. Biren Mitra's 43rd death anniversary was observed by the Biren Mitra Foundation on Wednesday. The morning rituals were held at Gadgadia Ghat followed by garlanding of the statue at Mission Road. In evening, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation organised unveiling of Mitra's photo to be fixed at the Town Hall. The programme was inaugurated by Biren Mitra Foundation president Priyadarsi Mishra in the presence of CMC officials and foundation general secretary Nimai Sahoo.

Buddha Purnima celebrated at Maniabandh

Narasinghpur: The holy Buddha Purnima was celebrated at the Maniabandh Tourism Lecture Centre on Thursday being organised by the Maniabandh Buddha Sangha. Devotees and guests offered floral tribute to Lord Buddha. Speakers highlighted Buddha’s teachings and stressed the need for greater awareness about it. The meeting was coordinated by Sangha president Arakshit Deity and secretary Ajit Choudhury.

22,836-MT oxygen sent from Odisha so far

CUTTACK:  A total of 1,243 tankers, containers carrying 22836.855 MT of medical oxygen have been dispatched under the escort or supervision of the Odisha police so far from Rourkela, Jajpur, Dhenkanal and Angul districts of Odisha to 15 deficit States and UTs in the country. More are leaving on Thursday.During last 35 days, as many as 112 tankers were dispatched from Angul with 1818.282 MT, 280 from Dhenkanal with 4534.35 MT,  265  from Jajpur with 5429.977 MT and 586 from Rourkela with 11054.246 MT.A total of 377 tankers with 7400.634 MT of oxygen have been sent so far to Andhra Pradesh, and 321 tankers with 5569.089 MT of oxygen to Telangana. Tamil Nadu has received 117 tankers with 2076.907 MT of oxygen.Similarly, Haryana has received 172 tankers filled with3178.333 MT oxygen. 41 tankers with 660.051 MT of oxygen have been sent so far to Maharashtra while 629.321 MT of oxygen filled in 39 tankers have been dispatched to Chhattisgarh. As many as 62 tankers have carried around 1232.062 MT of oxygen to Uttar Pradesh and 66 of tankers with 1,163.97 MT of oxygen have been sent to Madhya Pradesh till date. 22 tankers with 410.24 MT of oxygen have been sent so far to Delhi, four tankers with 107.89 MT sent to Punjab. Besides, eight tankers with 151.12 MT sent to Karnataka.
