More than 55,000 cases, over Rs 108 cr settled at Lok Adalat

Around 55,000 civil and revenue cases worth Rs 108 crore were settled at the National Lok Adalat, which was organised in 24 districts and at Jharkhand High Court on Saturday. Out of total cases which were disposed of at the National Lok Adalat, 55,151 cases were disposed of at district courts, while 151 cases were disposed of at High Court.

At district level out of 55,151 cases which were disposed of, 17,347 cases were pending cases, while at the same time 37,804 pre litigation cases were disposed of at Lok Adalat. In the High Court the number of pending cases was 136, while pre-litigation cases were 15. The amount settled in today’s Lok Adalat was Rs 1,08,81,03,138.

Pre-litigation is a process for resolving the cases before the lawsuit is officially filed and court proceedings begin.  The pre-litigation process also includes mediation, which saves time and money for both the parties.

As per the direction of of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), New Delhi the Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority (JHALSA) Ranchi under the patronage of Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court -cum-patron-in-Chief JHALSA, Justice Dr. Ravi Ranjan and under the direction of Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh Judge Jharkhand High Court -cum-executive chairman, Jhalsa, a National Lok Adalat was organised in all 24 districts and in Jharkhand High Court.

The National Lok Adalat was organised in the HC under the guidance of Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad, Judge Jharkhand High Court-cum-chairman, Jharkhand High Court Legal Services Committee.

In the High Court total five (05) benches for National Lok Adalat were constituted by Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad and work was done in all these benches in a virtual manner. In these benches 23 pending cases were disposed of by these five (5) benches. Apart from this, appointment letters were also given to the 15 beneficiaries on compassionate grounds.

Jhalsa member secretary, Mohammad Shakir said, “This time the number of cases which were disposed of on Saturday is much more than previous National Lok Adalat. The number of cases which were disposed of which included both pending as well as pre litigation cases and amount settled is much more than previous National Lok Adalat.”

Mohammad Shakir appreciating the effort of Jhalsa members said, “The large number of cases which were disposed of also in virtual mode establishes the fact that people are becoming more aware of online settlement of cases.”

A total of 260 benches were constituted in 24 districts of the state of Jharkhand for National Lok Adalat. In this National Lok Adalat, cases related to family court, civil cases, bank, electricity, water, cheque bounce, forest department, excise department, motor vehicle accident act, land acquisition, etc. or compoundable criminal cases were disposed of amicably. This time the National Lok Adalat was organized in hybrid mode as per the direction of National Legal Services Authority.
