NMC gives approval to LCMCH with 100 MBBS seats

Monday, 15 November 2021 | PNS | Ranchi

Laxmi Chandravanshi Medical College and Hospital (LCMCH) located at Bishrampur in Palamu district has become the first private medical college in the State. The National Medical Council—the statutory body which provides approval and recognition to medical colleges across the Country has recently given recognition to Lakshmi Chandravanshi Medical College for enrollment on 100 MBBS seats. The college has been built by Bishrampur MLA and former Health Minister Ramchandra Chandravanshi.

Sharing details about NMC approval to LCMCH, MLA Chandravanshi said, “I had a dream to have a medical college named after my mother, today the dream is becoming reality. Enrollment in the medical college will be done through National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) or NEET exam from the current academic session 2021-22. Admission will be done on 100 MBBS seats.”

Chandravanshi further said that as per NEET guidelines, 15 per cent seats will be filled from All India quota, while for major 85 per cent seats, state’s students will get preference based on their marks.

Chandravanshi, the BJP MLA claimed that fees structure in the medical college will be fixed as per state government guidelines, while at the same time state reservation roaster will be followed in admission of students.

The LCMCH received the approval for starting the medical colleges after the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of NMC examined and reviewed the remarks of the UG expert groups on the infrastructure facilities of college such as laboratories, library, hospital facilities and availability of the faculty, their experience and other essential criteria.

Former acting director of RIMS, Dr RK Srivastva has been appointed as principal of college while he will be assisted by Dr Suhas Teterway who too has medical experience for more than three decades.

The coming up of the first private medical college Laxmi Chandravanshi Medical College and Hospital (LCMCH) will increase the number of medical colleges in the state. Presently state has 500 medical seats which include 150 seats at RIMS, 50 seats each at Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College & Hospital Dhanbad and Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital Jamshedpur, 100 seats at Phulo Janho Medical College Dumka and 150 seats at Manipal Tata Medical College (MTMC). With Laxmi Chandravanshi Medical College and Hospital (LCMCH) enrolling 100 MBBS students the MBBS seats in the state will go up to 600. The two other government colleges Medinirai Medical College Palamu and Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College in Hazaribag are waiting for NMC approval.

Recently the NMC disallowed admission for MBBS courses in medical colleges in Palamu and Hazaribag as these colleges were found to have severe shortage of teaching faculties.

Sources said that Chandravanshi has already established dental colleges and engineering colleges in Palamu and Garhwa. In such a situation, this medical college is his third major achievement. The Bishrampur block of Palamu is adjacent to the border of Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. In such a situation, the students of these states will also benefit from this medical college.
