Amidst tight security arrangements, thousands of devotees thronged Mahagauri (Annapurna Mandir) near Kashi Vishwanath Temple on the auspicious occasion of Ashtami during the ongoing Shardiya Navratra here on Sunday. As the temple is located near Shri Kashi Vishwanath Dham, every devotee entered the temple after thorough checking. It was the second continuous day when the temple of one of the incarnations of Goddess Durga is located in this sensitive red zone area.
Besides, heavy rush was also seen throughout the day at Durga Mandir and all other temples of goddesses. Several people also preferred to go to the old Durga Mandir in trans-Ganga Ramnagar and Maa Sheetla Mata Mandir at Adalpura near Varanasi-Mirzapur borders. Not only this, hundreds of people also went to Vindhyachal in Mirzapur district, about 65 kms from here, to offer prayers at Maa Vindhyavasini Devi. This holy city has nine temples each of all the Devis and Gauris where the devotees offer prayers on different days during Shardiya and Vasantik Navratri respectively.
