On the initiative of Birsa Agriculture University (BAU) Vice Chancellor (VC), Dr Onkar Nath Singh, the students of Agricultural Engineering College of BAU were introduced to the utility of drone technology in the agriculture sector. The VC also observed this direct exhibition of drone technology.
On the occasion, Agricultural Engineering Scientist Dr Uttam Kumar apprised the students about the precise spraying techniques of insecticides, pesticides and nutrients on crops through drones at low cost and in a short time. He said that it is possible to spray medicines and fertilizers in 3 to 5 acres of field within 20 minutes. During this observation, the students were also informed about the practical information of maintenance and daily management of drone machine.
On this occasion, Singh emphasized the need to keep the students of the Agricultural University updated with the modern agricultural technology. He said that the use of drone machine in agriculture is also increasing continuously. It has special importance in hi-tech agriculture. “With the high-level sensor and camera installed in it, the moisture of the fields, the requirement of nutrients in the plants, the pests and diseases in the plants can be easily identified and land mapping can also be done,†he added.
On the occasion, Dean Agriculture Dr DK Shahi, Former Director Research, Dr A Wadood and Associate Dean, DK Russia also informed the students about the usefulness of drone technology.
