BJP orchestrating massive ‘vote deletion scam’: Kejriwal

Saturday, 07 December 2024 | Staff Reporter | New Delhi

AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Friday alleged that the BJP is orchestrating a massive ‘vote deletion scam’ wherein the names of a large number of voters had been deleted from the electoral roll ahead of Delhi Assembly polls.

Addressing a press conference, the former Chief Minister said the BJP filed applications with the Election Commission of India (ECI) to delete the names of thousands of voters in Shahdara, Janakpuri, Laxmi Nagar, and other seats.

He asserted, “So far, we have only heard stories about how Haryana was won, how Maharashtra was won. But today, we are presenting evidence to show what the BJP is doing in the Delhi elections. BJP is filing applications with the Election Commission at a massive scale to delete votes. And secretly, the Election Commission is processing these applications.”

"The BJP has filed an application to delete the names of 11,018 voters in the Shahdara area, but when we cross-checked that application on 500 names, 75 per cent of people were still living there, but their names can be deleted from the electoral roll," he said.

He claimed that the AAP won the Shahdara Assembly seat in the last elections by around 5,000 votes, and now names of around 11,000 voters are being deleted in that constituency and most of these voters are AAP supporters.

The AAP Supremo also raised fingers at the Election Commission of India, stating that its role is highly suspicious in this. “According to the rules, the Election Commission must upload details of all applications for vote deletions on its website daily in Form 10. Yet, as of yesterday, the Election Commission’s website showed only 487 applications for vote deletions in Shahdara constituency over the past month. This means that the 11,000 applications submitted by BJP are being processed secretly without being displayed on the website,” he said.

Addressing the accusations, Shahdara District Magistrate claimed, “Only 494 form 7 is received in Shahdara Assembly constituency since 29 October, 2024. Hence, the claim that 11018 form 7 were filed by BJP in the last one month is factually incorrect.”

Furthermore, Kejriwal said that the BJP is terribly afraid of the people of Delhi, who are extremely angry with the party. “The way BJP has ruined the law and order situation across Delhi is appalling. Women and girls are being openly harassed, and there are open shootings. Delhi has been turned into the capital of gangsters. The people of Delhi want to teach BJP a lesson, and BJP also knows that they are losing badly,” the AAP chief stated, adding that in desperation, they have resorted to this method of deleting a large number of AAP votes to win elections.

“But after today’s revelation, the people of Delhi will be outraged. The citizens of Delhi will not allow this conspiracy to succeed under any circumstances,” said the senior AAP leader.

He said that the credibility of the ECI is at stake today. Kejriwal demanded immediate action from the Election Commission to halt voter deletions until elections and called for a thorough investigation into the conspiracy.

Meanwhile, responding to the allegations, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva stated that Kejriwal is scared because fake votes by Rohingyas and Bangladeshis are being exposed. He alleged, “These voter bases are funded by foreign donations, such as from the Ford Foundation, and are bought by the AAP. Now that their fraud has been uncovered, they fear losing in the upcoming elections.”
