The BJP on Friday announced that the party will contest 68 out of 81 assembly seats in the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections, scheduled for next month, while leaving 13 seats for its NDA allies Ajsu Party, JD(U), and LJP (Ram Vilas).
Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), which was also seeking seats under the NDA fold, has been left out.

At a joint press conference held at the State BJP office in Ranchi, Assam Chief Minister and co-election in-charge for Jharkhand, Himanta Biswa Sarma, announced that AJSU will contest 10 seats, JD(U) 2 seats, LJP 1 seat, while BJP will contest the remaining 68 seats.

Sarma noted that last-minute changes could still occur for one or two seats, depending on the situation before the final date for filing nominations.

Earlier, Union Minister and Jharkhand election in-charge, Shivraj Singh Chauhan, confirmed that BJP, AJSU, JD(U), and LJP (Ram Vilas) would contest the elections together under the NDA banner and would also campaign jointly.

There are 81 Assembly constituencies in Jharkhand, of which 28 are reserved for scheduled tribes (STs), and nine for scheduled castes (SCs). According to the deal, AJSU has secured the constituencies of Gomia, Jugsalai, Lohardaga, Ichagarh, Ramgarh, Dumri, Silli, Pakur, Mandu, and Manoharpur.

Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) will contest in Jamshedpur West and Tamar. Chirag Paswan-led LJP (Ram Vilas) will contest from Chatra.

The current term of the Jharkhand Assembly concludes on January 5. In the 2019 elections, the JMM successfully ousted the BJP by winning 30 seats, while the BJP secured 25 seats and Congress took 16. The state's eligible voting population is about 26 million. The Congress has said that it will fight the polls, maintaining its existing alliance with the JMM.

Addressing media persons Shivraj Singh Chauhan said that the NDA government under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi is building a strong, prosperous and glorious India. The country is progressing rapidly under the leadership of Modi ji. Today, the NDA is a symbol of development and good governance. The election bugle has been sounded in Jharkhand as well. The Indi alliance government has brought Jharkhand to the brink of destruction and ruin.

BJP state president and former chief minister Babulal Marandi said that in the last 5 years, farmers, women, labourers, youth all felt cheated. The NDA alliance would like to free the people from this trouble. It is very important to provide security to the people, to empower mothers and sisters. The previous government had made a lot of announcements to the youth. However, not even a single announcement was fulfilled.

AJSU chief Sudesh Mahto said that elections will be fought in Jharkhand under the leadership of NDA. The public wants to see both the parties together. He said that everyone is troubled by the current government. Everyone is in trouble. Every section wants to get rid of this.
