Rahul’s, Congress policies on reservation deceitful: Maya

Wednesday, 25 September 2024 | PNS | Lucknow

Bahujan Samaj Party president and former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Mayawati once again targeted Rahul Gandhi and described his and the Congress’s policies on the issue of reservation as double-faced and deceitful.

Taking to the social media platform X, Mayawati said, “The SC/ST/OBC reservation policy of the Congress and its MP Rahul Gandhi is not clear, but double-faced and deceitful. In their own country, for their votes, they support reservation and advocate increasing it above 50%. When abroad, he talks about ending their reservation. People should beware of their double standards.”

Seeking to corner the Congress on the OBC Reservation Bill, she further said, “It is also true that their erstwhile government at the Centre did not implement the Mandal Commission report related to OBC reservation. Also, the Congress did not allow the Constitution Amendment Bill, brought in Parliament to make reservation effective in promotions of SC/ST due to BSP’s struggle, to pass. Their government did not pursue the matter properly in the court either.”

She added: “These people should be cautious of the anti-reservation Congress and other parties. Also, the erstwhile Congress government at the Centre did not conduct a caste census and is now raising voice after being out of power. If all this is not hypocrisy, what is?”
