Tata Steel employee dies in accidental fall from overhead crane

In a tragic incident, a Tata Steel employee died in an accidental fall from an overhead crane inside the company premises early on Saturday morning.

The deceased, identified as Naresh Prasad (32), was an NS grade worker and crane operator. The mishap occurred at around 4:00 am while Naresh Prasad was climbing to the crane installed at a considerable height. His absence went unnoticed initially, but fellow workers started searching for him after he remained incommunicable for a long time.

Naresh was found lying on the ground in critical condition. The safety department officials immediately rushed him to Tata Main Hospital, where doctors on emergency duty declared him dead.

The company management has confirmed the unfortunate incident and has set up a high-level enquiry into the mishap. Tata Steel has condoled the demise of Naresh Prasad and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family.

A resident of Kadma Main Road, Naresh was the father of two children and had joined Tata Steel three years ago. His father, also a Tata Steel employee, had secured a job in the company through a job-for-job scheme.

A communique issued by the company said: “It is with deep regret that we confirm a tragic incident at our CRM facility in Jamshedpur. At approximately 4:00 AM (IST) today, Naresh Prasad (age 32 years) , one of our crane operators and a valued employee, fell from the crane and tragically died. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Naresh's family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. We are extending all possible support to his family and are working closely with relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate the incident. The safety and well-being of our employees is of paramount importance to us, and we are committed to ensuring a safe working environment”.
