The Delhi Government has launched a beautification drive along 41 major traffic roundabouts to promote themes representing various States and Union Territories. The project is scheduled for completion by the last week of January 2026, ahead of the peak tourist and event season in the Capital.
The designs will feature themes such as Rajasthan’s forts and palaces, Odisha’s Konark Sun Temple, Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya Ram Temple, Sikkim’s monasteries, Kerala’s backwater-inspired patterns, Gujarat’s Statue of Unity and the North-East’s bamboo artistry, among others. Further, the Public Works Department (PWD) will dedicate select roundabouts to the Indian armed forces, symbolising valour, discipline and sacrifice.
“Through this initiative, PWD is transforming ordinary roundabouts into extraordinary symbols of pride-celebrating every State, every tradition, and the spirit of our Armed Forces that keeps the nation strong and united,” said PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma.
The process of revamping roundabouts began ahead of the 2023 G20 Summit, when 17 sculptures and 14 fountains were added to roundabouts.
The New Delhi area-the seat of the Union Government and home to key ministries, courts, embassies, and some of the city’s most sought-after localities-comprises 1,298 km of road network punctuated by 52 large and small roundabouts which give Lutyens’ Delhi its distinctive character.
