A fresh encounter unfolded this morning in the general area of Chhatru, Kishtwar, where security forces, in a joint operation with Jammu and Kashmir Police, engaged terrorists in a fierce exchange of fire.
Nagrota-based White Knight Corps in a post on X confirmed, “In an intelligence-based operation, launched in coordination with the Jammu and Kashmir Police early this morning, alert troops of the White Knight Corps established contact with terrorists in the general area of Chhatru”. “The operation is in progress,” it said.
Initial reports also claimed a group of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists may be trapped, with operations continuing under challenging conditions.
Earlier, three terrorists, including a top commander of the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorist outfit, were gunned down by the joint team of security forces in the Naidgam area of Chhatru in the Kishtwar district without suffering any collateral damage on April 11-12. The security forces have also recovered M4 and AK rifles from the encounter site.
During the day, a joint team of security forces intensified their operations as more troops were inducted to plug the gaps and prevent the escape of terrorists taking advantage of the undulating terrain. Helicopter sorties were launched, and foot soldiers were deployed in large numbers to pin down the foreign terrorists in the upper reaches of Kishtwar.
Since April this year, Kishtwar has witnessed half a dozen encounters.
On September 21, security forces established contact with a group of terrorists in the Keshwan forest area of Kishtwar district.
Meanwhile, a search operation was launched in the frontier district of Poonch on Wednesday after detecting some suspicious movement in the forward area.
The operation was launched by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir police, the Army and the CRPF following reports of suspicious movement of persons in the Balakote-Mendhar border areas.
The forces are on high alert, and locals have been urged to maintain a strict vigil in the area.
