Punjab Shiv Sena chief Sanjeev Ghannoli and party leader Sachin Ghannoli have reportedly received death threats over a WhatsApp call from an international number, just a day after the killing of an RSS volunteer’s grandson in Ferozepur.
The caller, using a UK number, identified himself as “Baghel Singh” and claimed affiliation with the “Sher-e-Punjab Brigade”. He allegedly said that he had orchestrated the Ferozepur killing and warned that the Ghannoli brothers were “next".”
Minutes after the call, a threatening letter was also sent to Sanjeev Ghannoli on WhatsApp, repeating the same warnings and carrying the name of the organization. The Shiv Sena leader immediately informed the police, following which ASI Raj Kumar from the Ghannoli police post reached his residence and collected call recordings, screenshots, the WhatsApp letterhead, and other evidence.
Police said that the threat originated from a foreign number and that the cybercrime wing is working to trace its origin. Necessary legal action has been initiated, officials confirmed.
Sanjeev Ghannoli said that he would not be intimidated, alleging that “elements sitting abroad” were trying to disturb Punjab’s peace. He urged the administration to act swiftly against those attempting to vitiate the state’s atmosphere.
