The Final Match of the Lt Bikram Singh Football Tournament was conducted today at Hawai Stadium as part of the 63rd Walong Day Commemoration. The event celebrated sportsmanship, teamwork and the rich cultural heritage of Arunachal Pradesh while paying tribute to the bravery and supreme sacrifice of Lt Bikram Singh, a hero of the Battle of Walong (1962).
The event commenced with a vibrant cultural showcase featuring Bhangra, Peacock Dance, Jazz Band, North East Warrior Performance and Gatka Martial Arts, creating an energetic and spirited atmosphere for the spectators and participants. The Final match, played between Hayuliang Circle and Walong Brigade, was kicked off by Commander, Walong Brigade, marking the start of an intense and competitive contest. The Assam Regiment Pipe Band enthralled the audience with a special performance during the half-time break.
In a closely fought match, Hayuliang Circle emerged victorious with a 1–0 win, securing the championship title. During the prize distribution ceremony, the Winner team was awarded `1.5 lakh, while the Runner-up team received `1 lakh. Bethang of Hayuliang Circle was adjudged the Best Player of the Tournament for his outstanding performance by scoring 3 goals during whole tournament. All participating players were also presented with medals in recognition of their sportsmanship and dedication.
The Lt Bikram Singh Football Tournament stands as a tribute to the courage, resilience and leadership embodied by Lt Bikram Singh and his troops during the 1962 War. The event continues to inspire the youth, foster community participation and reinforce the enduring Spirit of Walong, a legacy of valour and national pride.
