With the advent of the peak winter season, the handlers of Pakistan-based terrorist outfits have started pushing small groups of heavily armed terrorists inside the Indian territory along the Line of Control (LoC) in the North Kashmir district of Kupwara.
Late Friday night, the joint team of security forces neutralised two terrorists in the Keran sector of Kupwara while they were attempting to sneak inside the Indian territory. This is the second infiltration bid successfully foiled by the security forces in the Kupwara sector in the last month. On October 14, two infiltrators were killed in the Machil sector of the district.
According to ground reports, the gunfight erupted in the forward area after alert troops spotted suspicious movement near the LoC late last night. As troops challenged them, the infiltrators retaliated, leading to an exchange of gunfire. “Two terrorists have been neutralised by the security forces in the ongoing operation,” the Army’s Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said on X.
Earlier, the Army said troops launched a joint operation based on specific intelligence inputs about a possible infiltration bid in the sector.
“On 07 November 2025, based on specific intelligence input from agencies, regarding an infiltration attempt, a joint operation was launched in the Keran sector of Kupwara. Alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged, which resulted in terrorists opening indiscriminate fire. Contact was established and terrorists were trapped,” the Chinar Corps said.
In the coming weeks, the Indian army is also anticipating a spike in infiltration bids by heavily armed terrorists ahead of the closure of mountain passes in the higher reaches of North Kashmir owing to snowfall in the area. Intelligence reports have also reported the presence of a large number of trained terrorists in the launching pads close to the line of control. In Jammu, the Army’s Western Commander, Lt Gen Manoj Kumar Katiyar, reviewed the operational preparedness of troops deployed in forward areas along the Jammu-Pathankot sector on Friday.
The review by the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief comes as the troops prepare for the winter months to effectively counter threats posed by terrorists operating in the higher reaches and forest belts in the Jammu sector. “Lt Gen Katiyar reviewed the operational preparedness of troops deployed in forward areas of Jammu, Kathua, Samba (in Jammu division) and Pathankot (in Punjab), ensuring they remain poised to respond to any contingency,” Western Command said in a post on X.
Meanwhile, anti-terrorist operations have been intensified by the security forces in the Doda and Kishtwar districts to flush out the foreign terrorists hiding in the area, taking advantage of the natural cave-like structures and dense forest area in the upper reaches of the region. Similar operations are being conducted across the frontier districts of Rajouri and Poonch.
