168 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs functional, 187 more soon: CM Rekha

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday announced that 168 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are currently functional across Delhi and 187 more will become operational by next month.

The initiative, she said, marks a major step toward making quality healthcare accessible, affordable, and available close to home for every citizen.

The Chief Minister said the campaign aims to build a city where no one is denied medical care due to distance or cost.

The initiative is part of the Government’s broader mission of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and is guided by the principle of “Time to Care”.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the Government is ensuring that all Ayushman Arogya Mandirs operate from Government-owned spaces rather than rented premises.

“We have adequate infrastructure available across Delhi. Each Centre will function in permanent Government buildings to ensure stability and continuity,” she said.

The Chief Minister described the Ayushman Arogya Mandirs as “the new face of accessible and quality healthcare” in the Capital.

She said these Centres are being established under the national Ayushman Bharat programme, transforming sub-health Centres, primary health Centres, and urban primary health Centres into fully equipped primary healthcare hubs.

“These facilities are not just for treatment,” she said, “but for prevention, early diagnosis, and holistic care. They are designed to serve as the first point of contact between citizens and the healthcare system.”

Each Centre provides outpatient services, free diagnostic tests through empanelled labs, and free medicines.

They also offer maternal and child health services, adolescent and elderly care, mental health counselling, management of communicable and non-communicable diseases, and emergency assistance.

The Chief Minister said the new health Centres would help reduce unnecessary hospital visits and provide timely care within local communities.

“The idea is to take healthcare to every doorstep,” she added.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta noted that the Ayushman Arogya Mandirs have been developed as an improved and expanded version of the earlier Mohalla Clinic model.

She said the older clinics suffered from poor infrastructure and limited services, making it difficult to meet growing healthcare demands.

“In contrast, the new Centres are better equipped, with modern medical infrastructure and digital health management systems.”

“They will deliver comprehensive services under one roof,” she said.

The Chief Minister said the Government has implemented Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) in the design and operation of these Centres to ensure uniformity in infrastructure, staff, equipment, and services.

She emphasised that every Ayushman Arogya Mandir will have proper staffing, medical supplies, and equipment as per national standards. Quality monitoring, digital record-keeping, and periodic audits will be integral parts of the system.

Before opening new Centres, the Government ensured that citizens in areas where Mohalla Clinics operated continued to receive uninterrupted services from nearby Ayushman Arogya Mandirs or other Government facilities.

The Chief Minister said the Government’s aim is not just to expand medical access but also to build public confidence in the healthcare system.

“These Centres reflect our commitment to dignity, equality, and wellness for all,” she said.

The Delhi Government plans to expand the network further in 2026, with an eventual target of ensuring that every citizen has a government healthcare facility within a short walking distance.
