A 25-year-old man was found dead with gunshot wounds inside a park in northeast Delhi’s Nand Nagri area.
The deceased body was found on Saturday evening, triggering panic in the locality, police said.
The deceased was identified as Sunny, son of Surender, a resident of Nand Nagri. Police said he had left home for an evening walk and did not return. His body was later found lying in a pool of blood at B-1 Park around 6:57 pm. According to officials, the police control room received a call about a man shot near the park. A team immediately rushed to the spot and found the victim unconscious with visible gunshot injuries.
He was taken to GTB Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) said, “A case has been registered under relevant sections of the law. Teams have been formed to identify and arrest the accused at the earliest. Investigation is in progress.”
Police said no valuables were found missing from the deceased, ruling out robbery as a possible motive in the initial stage. “The forensic team was called to the spot and several pieces of evidence were collected, including a spent cartridge,” an officer said. Local residents told police that they had heard gunshots and saw a few young men arguing in the park shortly before the incident. “We heard a loud noise that sounded like a gunshot. When we reached the park, we saw a man lying on the ground,” said a resident who informed police.
Preliminary investigation suggests the victim may have known his attackers. However, police said all angles, including personal enmity, are being explored. The area’s CCTV footage is being scanned to trace the suspects and their possible escape route.
Sunny’s family members said he had no known disputes. “He went out for a walk in the evening. We kept waiting, but he did not come back. Later, we got a call that he had been shot,” said one of his relatives. The incident has created tension in the area, with residents demanding increased police patrolling. “Such crimes are happening too often. We don’t feel safe in the evenings anymore,” said another local resident.
Police maintained that teams are conducting raids to track down the culprits. Senior officers reviewed the progress of the investigation.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and the report is awaited. Police said the findings will help determine the exact cause and sequence of events leading to the murder.
