AAP declares 12 candidates for MCD bypolls

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday announced its candidates for the November 30 bypolls to the 12 wards of the Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD), a day ahead of the conclusion of nomination submission.

The AAP’s Ram Swaroop Kanojia will contest from Dakshin Puri, Anuj Sharma from Sangam Vihar A, and Eeshna Gupta from Greater Kailash. Geeta Rawat has been named AAP candidate from Vinod Nagar, while Babita Ahlawat will contest from Shalimar Bagh B.

Seema Vikas Goel has been fielded from Ashok Vihar, Harsh Sharma from Chandni Chowk, and Muddasir Usman Qureshi from Chandni Mahal.

Rajbala Sehrawat will contest from Dwarka B, Anil Lakra from Mundka, Rajan Arora from Naraina, and Keshav Chauhan from Dichao Kalan. Reacting over AAP’s announcement of candidates, Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said that when AAP announced its list of candidates for the by-elections in 12 wards, it shockingly declared the name of Keshav Chauhan— a man — for the Dichkaun Kalan (Women’s Reserved) seat.

Moreover, from the Vinod Nagar ward, AAP nominated Geeta Rawat, a former councillor who was earlier arrested for bribery, leaving the people of Delhi stunned.

He said that perhaps, while AAP is often quick to accuse others of promoting dynastic politics, in this case, they wanted to give the ticket to Chauhan’s wife but instead directly listed Chauhan’s name—clearly revealing their affection for family-based politics.

“Similarly, due to a shortage of candidates, AAP’s leadership was compelled to give the ticket from Vinod Nagar to Geeta Rawat, who had served a jail term for bribery in 2021–22. This clearly shows that AAP no longer believes in the politics of integrity. However, we exposed that deceit as well, turning today’s Sunday into a Black Sunday for AAP,” Kapoor said.

The last date of filing of nominations is November 10, and the scrutiny of papers will take place on November 12. The last date of withdrawal of nomination is November 15.
