Capital celebrates unity in diversity

Delhi is witnessing vibrant celebrations of State Foundation Days and cultural festivals, turning the national Capital into a lively centre of India’s unity in diversity. Social Welfare Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh said these events reflect the spirit of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat” and strengthen social harmony among people of different states.

Singh was the chief guest at the Uttarakhand State Foundation Day event at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park in Rohini Sector-24.

He said Delhi has always embraced the culture, language, and traditions of every Indian state. “This is the true identity of Delhi and the real strength of India,” he said.

The event was organised by the Uttaranchal Religious and Social Development Association and featured the Devbhoomi Family Sports Day. The celebration included traditional folk dances, songs, and sports events highlighting Uttarakhand’s cultural richness and community spirit.

Singh said the Delhi Government has decided to celebrate the Foundation Day of every Indian state with equal enthusiasm in the capital. “Every state contributes uniquely to India’s progress. These celebrations honour that contribution and promote the feeling of oneness among citizens,” he said. He added that such initiatives are transforming Delhi into a vibrant cultural hub, where the spirit of national integration finds daily expression.

The minister also referred to the recent Chhath Mahaparv celebrations, which were held on an unprecedented scale across Delhi. “Lakhs of devotees participated with great enthusiasm,” he said.

He said the capital’s cultural calendar has become more inclusive, with equal representation of festivals from every region.

“From Punjab’s Lohri to Tamil Nadu’s Pongal, from Maharashtra’s Gudi Padwa to Assam’s Bihu, every celebration in Delhi now reflects the shared soul of India,” he added.

Praising the organisers of the Uttarakhand Foundation Day celebration, Singh said the event beautifully captured the culture, brotherhood and traditions of the hill state. “Such glimpses of Dev-bhoomi’s spirit are not only inspiring but also connect every Delhiite to the cultural roots of our nation,” he said.

He extended greetings to the people of Uttarakhand on their Foundation Day and assured continued Government support for similar cultural initiatives. “The Delhi Government is committed to ensuring that every community finds representation and respect in the capital’s cultural space,” he said.

The minister also interacted with members of the Uttarakhand community, encouraging the younger generation to preserve their traditions while contributing to Delhi’s growth. “Delhi belongs to everyone. Its strength lies in its diversity and inclusiveness,” he said.

Officials said Delhi’s ongoing series of state celebrations aims to promote interstate harmony and showcase India’s cultural mosaic to residents and visitors alike. Each event features art exhibitions, folk performances, food festivals, and traditional sports that highlight the diversity of India’s regions.

The Government believes these initiatives are not just cultural events but instruments of social bonding and emotional unity.

“When we celebrate each other’s traditions, we move closer to the dream of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat,” Singh said.

The event saw the participation of hundreds of residents from Delhi and Uttarakhand, social organisations, public representatives, and senior officials.

With colourful performances and warm community interaction, the park turned into a small reflection of Devbhoomi in the heart of Delhi.
