With the national capital under heightened security, the Delhi Police issued a detailed advisory for passengers and commuters on Thursday. The Delhi Police has urged citizens to plan their travel in advance and cooperate with security personnel at major transport hubs and busy city corridors.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Transport Range) Milind Dumbre stated that the advisory, issued on Wednesday, aimed to ensure smooth security checks and prevent crowding at sensitive locations, including railway stations, metro stations, and the airport. “Passengers are advised to reach railway stations at least one hour before their train’s departure, metro stations 20 minutes before their scheduled boarding time, and the airport at least three hours before flights,” Dumbre said.
He added that these measures follow the recent tightening of security across Delhi. “Screening of passengers, luggage, and vehicles is being conducted at major entry points. Travellers are requested to cooperate to ensure safety and smooth movement,” he said.
Officials said that security teams have been placed on high alert at bus terminals, metro interchanges, and major transport routes. Sniffer dogs, metal detectors, and baggage scanners are being used more extensively.
Random checks of vehicles and identity documents are being carried out in the central and south Delhi zones. While overall movement remains normal, commuters have been advised to allow extra time for travel due to longer security checks.
Separately, the Delhi Traffic Police announced elaborate arrangements for traffic regulation during the 44th India International Trade Fair (IITF) at Pragati Maidan, which begins on Friday. The two sets of measures, security and traffic, are being implemented simultaneously to handle heavy movement and maintain law and order. Rajeev Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic, New Delhi), said 245 traffic personnel have been deployed in three shifts to manage the expected increase in vehicular and pedestrian flow around Pragati Maidan. He further said that no-parking and tow-away zones have been declared in the area. “Adequate signage and barriers have been installed. Dedicated parking spaces for visitors and business delegates have been identified. We appeal to road users to follow the advisories and avoid parking violations,” he said.
A coordination meeting to review preparedness was held on Thursday afternoon by Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic, Zone-II) Dinesh Kumar Gupta at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan. Officers from ITPO, the New Delhi Traffic Range, and field staff attended the briefing. To handle emergencies and breakdowns, 15 cranes, 16 motorcycle patrols, and three disaster management vehicles have been stationed in the vicinity. Six Traffic Help Desks have been set up to guide and assist visitors.
A dedicated Traffic Control Room has been established inside the ITPO Administrative Block to monitor real-time conditions and coordinate with field officers. Traffic flow around Mathura Road, Bhairon Marg, and Ring Road will be closely supervised to prevent congestion. Directional boards for entry, exit, and parking areas have been installed. Special gates have been earmarked for business visitors, exhibitors, media, and VVIPs.
The Delhi Traffic Police has also shared a traffic advisory on its official social media handles to inform commuters about diversions and parking arrangements. Regular updates will be issued throughout the fair.
