DJB releases Rs 734.95 crore to modernise water, sewer systems

Giving a major boost to modernise Delhi’s water and sewerage infrastructure, the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has released a total of Rs 734.95 crore to 68 Assembly Constituencies under Capital and Revenue Heads. This marks the largest constituency-level fund release in DJB’s history, ensuring that every part of the national capital benefits from renewed investment in essential water and sanitation systems, Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said on Tuesday.

This Rs 735 crore release represents a historic milestone in Delhi’s water governance, combining decentralisation, accountability, and rapid on-ground delivery under the new Government’s vision of efficient and inclusive urban development, he said.

Out of the total amount, Rs 408.95 crore has been released under the Capital Head for infrastructure projects such as laying of new pipelines, replacement of old sewer lines, construction of underground reservoirs (UGRs) and augmentation of water supply systems. Another Rs 326 crore has been released under the Revenue Head for regular maintenance, desilting, repair works, and service-related improvements aimed at enhancing the efficiency and reliability of existing networks, he said.

The Delhi Jal Board has emphasised that this constituency-wise release of funds reflects its mission to promote equitable, decentralised and need-based development. By allocating funds directly to constituencies, DJB aims to ensure that each area can take up works aligned with the immediate needs of its residents, ranging from pipeline extensions and leak repair to upgrading sewage treatment systems and ensuring a clean, uninterrupted water supply.

To ensure transparency and timely execution, the Board has implemented a strict monitoring and auditing mechanism through its central Project Management Unit (PMU). All works will be geo-tagged and tracked in real time to guarantee efficient utilization of funds and adherence to deadlines.

Parvesh Sahib Singh also said, “The Delhi Jal Board has released Rs 735 crore directly to constituencies to ensure faster work, cleaner execution, and greater accountability. We have provided even more funds overall, but this time they have been released in a decentralized manner, empowering MLAs to act according to the people’s needs. Our goal is clear: uninterrupted clean water and a functional sewer network in every part of Delhi.”

He added, “This is not a promise for the future. The funds have already been released and work is underway. Citizens will soon see the results in their streets and homes.”
