No shortage of life-saving drugs: Health Minister

After meeting with the Medical Directors and Medical Superintendents of all Delhi Government hospitals, Health Minister Dr Pankaj Kumar Singh on Saturday stated that there is no shortage of life-saving drugs, all types of essential medicines, or medical equipment in any hospital.

According to the Delhi government’s approved drug list, stocks of all essential and life-saving medicines, are available in sufficient quantities in all Delhi Government hospitals. Senior officers of the Health Department were also present in this crucial meeting.

Singh has directed the Medical Directors and Medical Superintendents of government hospitals to submit their requirements for essential medicines and medical equipment for the remainder of the financial year 2025-26 within 10 days to ensure a timely and uninterrupted supply.

The Delhi Health Minister, warned to fix responsibility on the Medical Directors and Medical Superintendents of hospitals if the stock of sufficient medicines/consumables are not maintained in any hospital and reiterated that strict action will be taken against any kind of negligence.

Singh stated that to guarantee uninterrupted patient care in hospitals, a highly efficient supply system for medicines, managed by the Central Procurement Agency, has been effectively established.

Hospital management has been given strict guidelines for daily monitoring of medicine inventories. In instances of essential medicine shortages, supplies are promptly replenished through the approved Central Procurement Agency processes. Additionally, provisions for emergency local purchases have been authorized to handle urgent requirements swiftly.

In the meeting, Singh gave strict instructions to the Medical Directors and Medical Superintendents of government hospitals, stating that they should treat every patient coming to the hospital with proper treatment and care, and also behave cordially with the relatives who come with them for care.
