Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will celebrate ‘Karwa Chauth’ on Friday with women from across the capital. The Chief Minister will celebrate the festival at the Jan Seva Sadan, marking her first ‘Karwa Chauth’ as Chief Minister.
Calling the occasion “deeply emotional and personally significant,” she said the festival represents faith, love, and the enduring strength of Indian family values. “This festival holds a special place in every Indian woman’s heart,” the chief minister said ahead of the celebration. “It symbolises devotion, family, and the sacred bond of marriage. ‘Karwa Chauth’ reflects the spirit of our traditions that continue to unite families and communities.” The event will bring together women from diverse walks of life, legislators, wives of MPs, senior officers, social workers, and members of the Chief Minister’s family. Officials said the celebration will be organised on a grand yet traditional scale, showcasing the unity and cultural richness of Delhi’s women.
The Chief Minister, who has been hosting ‘Karwa Chauth’ gatherings for nearly 15 years in various parts of Delhi, said she views the festival as a celebration of love and solidarity rather than just ritual fasting.
“For me, Karwa Chauth has never been just about the rituals,” she said. “It is a time when women come together to celebrate love, support each other, and strengthen the bonds that hold our families and communities together.”
As part of the celebration at Jan Seva Sadan, the Chief Minister’s office has planned traditional prayers, folk songs, storytelling sessions, and cultural performances that highlight the heritage and grace of Indian womanhood. The evening will also include the Chand Darshan ceremony, where participating women will observe the moonrise together, a symbolic moment that marks the end of the fast and the reaffirmation of faith and companionship in marriage.
The Chief Minister said the event was designed not only as a cultural celebration but also as a message of empowerment and unity. “Karwa Chauth is not only a personal expression of devotion; it is a celebration of our culture and collective strength as women,” she said. “Through this celebration, we reaffirm that tradition and modern life can go hand in hand, preserving our values while embracing change.”
According to a press statement by Chief Ministers Office, the celebrations at Chief Minister Jan Seva Sadan is expected to be attended by hundreds of women, marking a festive evening filled with colour, music, and shared devotion, a blend of tradition, emotion, and the spirit of togetherness.
