Three of a family killed as bike hits tree in Khunti

Three members of a family, including a father and his young son, lost their lives after the bike they were riding rammed into a tree in Jharkhand’s Khunti, officials said on Monday.

The incident took place near Sangor village on the Karra-Birda road under the Karra police station limits, about 45 km from the state capital, Ranchi.

Sources said that, neither the bike rider nor the pillion riders were wearing helmets. The deceased were identified as 48-year-old Rela Minj of Malgo village, his son 20-year-old Abhishek Minj and his nephew 20-year-old Rohit Minj. All three had gone to Birda village from Malgo village in the morning and were returning to their village. On receiving the information, Karra police recovered the bodies and sent them for post-mortem and informed the family about the incident. Sources said that the speed of the bike was high due to which the driver lost control at the turn near Sangor School and hit a tree alongside the road. After the collision, all three fell face down on the road.

The head of Meha Panchayat and the villagers immediately informed the Karra police about the accident. On receiving the information, Karra police station in-charge Manish Kumar reached the spot with his team. After investigation, the police recovered the bodies and took them to Karra police station.

Circle Inspector Ashok Singh said that information about a road accident on the Karra Birda main road was received from the local villagers. On receiving the information, the Karra police station in-charge reached the spot with his team. The damaged bike and the three bodies were recovered from the spot and brought to the police station. After investigation, the deceased were identified and after informing their family members, the paperwork was done and they were sent for post-mortem.

As news of the accident reached Malgo village, a large number of relatives and locals gathered at the hospital, many of them inconsolable. The bodies have been sent to Khunti Sadar Hospital for post-mortem.

In another road mishap in Jharkhand’s Lohardaga town on Monday, a 62-year-old Chandan Bharti was killed after being hit by a speeding truck at Powerganj Chowk.

Bharti, a resident of Sanjay Gandhi Path in the town, was reportedly on his way somewhere on a motorcycle when the truck struck him. He died on the spot.

Bharti had retired recently from the position of manager at the Girivar Shishu Sadan School, where he had served for several years. Police reached the spot soon after the incident and sent the body for a post-mortem.
