A key accused in the 2007 Gorakhpur and 2008 Ahmedabad serial blasts had studied at Al-Falah University, according to police records. Mirza Shadab Baig is accused of carrying out five blasts across the country and has been absconding for nearly two decades.
Following the 2008 Delhi blasts, Baig fled to Pakistan and is now subject to an Interpol Red Notice. He later reportedly joined the Islamic State. He remains one of India’s most wanted terrorists and has been on the run since 2008.
Baig, alleged to be linked to the Indian Mujahideen network, completed his BTech from Al Falah in Faridabad in 2007 and his university identity card has been accessed by investigators looking into the Delhi blast. His name has resurfaced amid renewed scrutiny of the university following recent disclosures involving other accused individuals.
In a related development, the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) has barred Al-Falah University, Faridabad, from participating in the North Zone Inter-University Cricket Tournament-2025-26, scheduled for Nov 22-Dec 4 at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
