Amid false rumours about his deteriorating health spread across Mumbai and elsewhere in the country in the early part of the day, the family members of veteran actor Dharmendra — who has been admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy hospital — said on Tuesday that he was “stable and under observation” at the hospital.
On a day when the country’s commercial capital woke up to strong rumours about the 89-year-old actor, Dharmendra’s wife and senior actress Hema Malini took to micro-blogging site “X” slammed the “responsible” television channels for putting out “false news about a person who is responding to treatment and is recovering”.
“What is happening is unforgivable! How can responsible channels spread false news about a person who is responding to treatment and is recovering? This is being extremely disrespectful and irresponsible. Please give due respect to the family and its need for privacy,” Hema Malini wrote on “X”.
Her daughter and actress Esha Deol also rubbished the news circulating in a section of the media and also the social media about Dharmendra. “The media seems to be in overdrive and spreading false news. My father is stable and recovering. We request everyone to give our family privacy. Thank you for the prayers for Papa’s speedy recovery,” Esha Deol wrote on “Instagram”.
“Mr Dharmendra is stable and under observation. Further comments and updates will be shared as available. Kindly don’t indulge in spreading false rumours regarding his health. Request everyone to pray for his speedy recovery and respect the family’s right to privacy,” a PR team of the Deol family said.
On October 31, Dharmendra was hospitalised for his routine check-up. He has been undergoing treatment at the Breach Candy Hospital since then.
On Sunday night, Sunny Deol was seen arriving at Breach Candy Hospital to check on his father. The who’s who of Bollywood, including wife Hema Malini, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Ameesha Patel, among others, visited the hospital on Monday.
In his six-decade-long career, Dharmendra has acted in more than 300 films. He is known for his memorable performances in films such as Ayee Milan Ki Bela, Phool Aur Patthar, Aaye Din Bahar Ke, Seeta Aur Geeta, Raja Jani, Jugnu, Yaadon Ki Baaraat, Dost, Sholay, Pratiggya, Charas, Dharam Veer, among others.
