Wednesday, 17 April 2024 | PNS | Lucknow

On the last day of campaigning for the first phase of Lok Sabha elections on Wednesday, the Congress and Samajwadi Party will be addressing a joint press conference to send a message of solidarity amongst the constituents of the INDIA bloc.

According to Congress state president Ajay Rai,  both Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav will hold a joint press conference in Ghaziabad on Wednesday morning, the last day of campaigning for the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections.

Congress sources confirmed that Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra would campaign in west UP on Wednesday. While Rahul Gandhi, along with Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, will address mediapersons in Ghaziabad, Priyanka Gandhi will hold a roadshow at Saharanpur in favour of Congress candidate Imran Masood.

“Rahul Gandhi and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav will address a joint press conference in Ghaziabad tomorrow. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will hold a roadshow at Saharanpur the same day,” a senior Congress leader said.

Saharanpur will go to polls in the first phase on April 19, while the voting in Ghaziabad is scheduled in the second phase on April 26.

The Congress and SP are contesting the Lok Sabha polls as partners of the opposition INDIA bloc. The Congress is contesting 17 out of 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, and the SP 62. One seat, Bhadohi, has been left for the Trinamool Congress.

The Congress and Samajwadi Party have held coordination meetings to ensure that the alliance percolates down to the grassroots level. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav started campaigning from Pilibhit on April 12 but the Gandhis have yet to launch their campaign in the state.
