Workshop on updating regulation process of NAAC

Wednesday, 17 April 2024 | Staff Reporter | BHOPAL

A daylong workshop on upgrading the regulation process of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) was organized on Tuesday at Kushabhau Thakre Convention Center (Minto Hall) under the joint aegis of AISECT and Srijan Sanstha in Bhopal city, the capital of Madhya Pradesh.

In this workshop, the recent changes in the grading system of NAAC were discussed in which Dr. Anil Sahastrabuddhe, Chairman, NAAC shared his experiences and views on the topic “Improvement in the regulatory process of NAAC and its impact on the quality of education”.

He was present in the program as the keynote speaker. The program was organized in two sessions. The first session was presided over by Shri Santosh Choubey, Chairman AISECT. Apart from this, Dr. Amogh Kumar Gupta, Chairman, Srijan, Dr. Bharat Sharan Singh, Chairman, Madhya Pradesh Private University Regulatory Commission, Shri Prasanna Sharma, Chairman Nivedita Society were present among other guests.

During this, Anil Sahastrabuddhe gave detailed information about the changes being made in the process of accreditation of NAAC.

He gave information about various aspects of Binary Accreditation and Maturity Based Graded Accreditation, which will be implemented from June in place of the grading system. He said that in binary accreditation, instead of grade, the institute will be accredited or non-accredited.

In addition to binary accreditation, institutions will have the option to apply for maturity based graded accreditation from Level 1 to Level 5 which will reflect the excellence of the institution.

Also talking about One National One Data in the future, he said that currently educational institutions have to send data to various regulatory institutions several times a year for their accreditation, approvals, ranking etc., in the future we are moving towards such a provision. Due to which the processes can be completed by sending the data once. This will remove the variation in information when data is given at different times and will also save time.

Presiding over the session, Santosh Choubey said that all universities should not be seen on the same parameters, hence the classification of universities being done by NAAC is a commendable initiative.

He also said that at present skill universities and digital universities are also emerging as separate categories. In such a situation, I hope NAAC would have included these also in its classification.

In the second session, Dr. Amitabh Saxena, famous educationists, Dr. NK Tiwari, Dr. D.K. Swami were present along with Dr. Anil Sahastrabuddhe. During the discussion, Dr. Anil Sahastrabudh said that comprehensive changes are being made in the recognition process of NAAC on the basis of the recommendation of Dr. Radhakrishnan Committee.

In this, he also gave information about Academic Bank of Credit and said that quality comes from process.

He talked about linking program outcome with course outcome. It was further informed that as a new experiment in India for ranking, stakeholder crowd source validation will be done in which the reliability and credibility of the university will be tested through AI based tools.
