Sahitya Akademi's 60th year marks scintillating events

Tuesday, 02 September 2014 | SEFAlI SUMAN | BHUBANESWAR

Celebrating its 60th year, the Kendra Sahitya Akademi organised two programmes ‘Meet the Author’ and ‘Kavi- Anuvadak’ on Saturday and Sunday here in the city.

Eminent literary figure Binapani Mohanty spoke about her life and works in ‘Meet the Author’ programme, whereas literature fans of the city enjoyed Kavi- Anuvadak programme with Hindi poet Mangalesh Dabral and poet and translator Kshirod Parida. Mohanty shared her experience in writing and spoke about her school days, and education. She said, “I had started writing from my chatasali days,” adding, “My mother was my source of inspiration. She was the first reader of my writings and a great patron as well.”

Writer Paramita Satpathy read a story Shikha of Binapani Mohanty on the occasion.

The Akademi organised for the first time the Kavi-Anuvadak programme in the State. Chief Guest Mangalesh Dabral said memories create imagination and poetry is born out of such imagination. But now-a -days mobile, i-pad and social media are getting greater currency than human memory, Darbal lamented. Dabral read poems like This number does not exist, Me aur meri satru, Ayoba, Ghar sant he, Bahar,Maa ki tasveer, Pita ki smruti me etc and poet Kshirod Parida read Odia version of the poems translated by him. Banoj Tripahy gave vote of thanks.
