In an yet another incident of death, while cleaning the sewerage, one more person died while cleaning sewerage tank in Delhi's Dabri area on Friday evening. Only last week, dangerous fumes of sewerage tank in DLF greens residential complex in Moti Nagar have claimed five lives. This incident once again had raised question mark over the implementation of ban by Apex court on it in 2014.

“The deceased, identified as Anil, was hired by a resident of Dabri named Satbir on Friday evening to clean the choked sewer line in his building. While climbing down the sewer Anil slipped and the rope around his waist broke and he fell in the sewer which was about 20 feet deep, he was rushed to hospital by locals where he was declared brought dead,” said a senior police official.

“During initial investigation it was revealed that there was no protective gear provided to victim and even the rope wasn't strong enough to bear the tension.  Dusk time, usually, is not advisable to do the work,” said the senior police official.

“We have registered case under section 304A/, 304 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 7/9 Prohibition of Employment of Manual Scavengers Act at police station Dabri. The accused, Satbir, is from village Dabri was hospitalised in ICU of Orchid Hospital for high blood pressure in the night after this incident. He has been discharged from the hospital and has been arrested. Further investigation is going on,” said the senior police official.
