Screening committee of All India Congress Committee (AICC) had a marathon meeting with senior leaders of party where they finalised the names of 72 candidates to be declared on Tuesday. Six names for the elections to be held in first phase are expected on Monday as the last day of filing the nomination paper is on October 23.
Highly placed sources in party informed the list would be declared after the visit of AICC Chief Rahul Gandhi to the state. Though, it is expected that the names of six of the candidates to be fielded from Rajnandgaon region for the first phase is to be declared on Monday.
Chairperson of Screening Committee Bhubaneswar Kalita on Sunday took a marathon meeting of senior leaders of the party at a private hotel. Chhattisgarh In charge of AICC P.L. Punia, Secretaries In charge for the state Chandan Yadav and Arun Uraon were also present.
The meeting took note of the list of 77 candidates declared by Bharatiya Janata Party and reportedly changed their strategy accordingly. The meeting decided to change the names in few of the seats keeping in view various equations as per the list of BJP. As BJP had not repeated many of their sitting MLAs fearing anti-incumbency, Congress too is planning not to allot tickets to several of its sitting MLAs, sources said.
