Denied ticket, Cong leader takes poison in Gwalior

Saturday, 10 November 2018 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

Massive rebellion has come to fore from both Congress and BJP in Madhya Pradesh on the last day of filing nominations.

Former district general secretary of Congress in Gwalior, Prem Singh Kushwah who was denied ticket by the party consumed poison and was admitted to Jaya Arogya Hospital in critical condition.

Kushwah was demanding ticket from Gwalior East or Gwalior South seats but his name did not figure in the candidates’ list. He reached the statue of late Madhav Rao Scindia in front of Gwalior fort on Friday and after the deadline for filing nominations and the party did not name him, he consumed poison he was carrying with him, accusing the party of offering tickets to outsiders. Kushwah was battling for life in hospital.

In Bhopal, two of the BJP’s former MLAs—Brahmananad and Jitendra Daga raised rebellion against party while filing nomination from Berasia and Huzur respectively. Daga is a close aide of MEA Sushma Swaraj and was given ticket in 2008 on her instistence but was denied re-nomination in 2013 after his name popped in Bhopal Development Authority CEO BD Rusia’s death case.

Congress leader submitted nomination as an independent from Govindpura in Bhopal. Corporator Md Saood of Congress also filed nomination as an independent.

BJP dissident Dr Rashmi Singh Patel claimed candidature as independent from Naugaud in Satna.

Among prominent turncoats, former BJP veteran Sartaj Singh filed nomination as a Congress candidate in Hoshangabad on Friday. Political rivalry did not dilute personal relations as assembly speaker Dr Sitasaran Sharma who represents BJP at this seat touched Singh’s feet and sought blessings.

BJP general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya’s son Akash who has been fielded from Indore-3 is also facing dissent as senior party leader and former chairman of Indore Development Authority Lalit Porwal filed nomination as an independent asking where the workers of 30 or 40 years should go. The BJP is also facing massive unrest on Indore-1 and Mhow.
