District Magistrate Pauri Sushil Kumar instructed the district officers to ensure that the local body elections slated in November are held peacefully while addressing a one-day workshop on Tuesday. He said that the returning officers and the assistant returning officers should rise up to the occasion. He also shared his experiences of the election he had conducted previously with the officers present at the workshop.

DM said that the elections would be held for the municipal corporation Kotdwar, nagar alika Pauri and Duggda and nagar panchayat Satpuli and Swargaasharam Jonk in the district.

Under the election procedure, nominations would be filed from October 20 to 23, scrutiny of the nominations would be done on October25 and 26, the date of the withdrawal of nomination is October 27 and the symbol would be allotted on October 29. The polling would be held on November 18 and the counting would be done on November 20.

While all the procedures of the election would be held in the respective Tehsils the same for nagar panchayat Swargaasharam Jonk would be held at the district magistrate’s camp office at Laxmanjhula.

For the election of the president of municipal corporation, Kotdwar, the additional District Magistrate Ramjee Sharan Sharma has been appointed as returning officer (RO) and Tehsidar Kotdwar Sunil Raj as the assistant returning officer (ARO).

SDM Pauri S S Rana would be the RO and Tehsildar Hari Mohan Khanduri as ARO for the election of Pauri nagar palika president and for the election of the members, the district education officer Hari would be the RO and three officers would act as AROs.

For the election of the president of nagar palika Duggada, SDM Lansdowne Kishan Singh Negi would be the RO and assistant engineer Irrigation AK Bhatt would be the ARO.

For the election of the members, the executive engineer RES Kotdwar Hiteshpal Singh would function as RO and BDO Duggada J.Bhardwaj as the ARO.

DFO Lansdowne Indresh Upadhhaya would function as the RO for the election of the president of nagar panchayat Satpuli and BDO Dwarikhal Aatiya Parwaz would function as ARO. The District Development Officer Ved Prakash would function as the RO for the election of the  president of the nagar panchayat Swargaasharam Jonk and BDO Yamkeshwar Apparna Bahuguna would act as ARO.

DM instructed the ROs and AROs to inspect the booths to be set up under their jurisdictional limits and to take actions to set things right if they are not so.

He also asked the Chief Development Officer to frame a calendar of the daily work related to the upcoming local body election.
