PThe Ganjam Zilla Bikash Manch on Monday alleged that a 61-year-old local person died due to sheer negligence in treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar and demanded a proper investigation into the allegation.

Addressing a Press meet, Manch member Dr Shiba Prasad Mishra said Bishnu Prasad Mishra (61) had been admitted to the AIIMS on August 28 to undergo an operation of nipple bone. After required tests, doctor had stated that he was fit for the operation.

However, he felt severe pain after the operation was conducted very lately on August 29.

Thereafter a test was conducted from which it was revealed that a bone had been fractured due to fault in the operation.

To rectify it, another operation was conducted. Later, Medicine doctors diagnosed meningitis (an infection in the brain) in him.  As his condition deteriorated he was put in the ICU, where he suffered a heart attack.

“While the ICU had all facilities, how the patient suffered a heart attack,” Mishra wanted to know and informed that due to continued negligence the family members finally shifted Bishnu to a private hospital in Cuttack where he died on September 18.

“Bishnu died due to continued negligence in treatment at the AIIMS.  A proper investigation should be done as to why another operation was conducted on Mishra and how he suffered a heart attack in the ICU, which is equipped with all life-saving equipments and where a patient is kept under close watch,” wanted to know Mishra.

Mishra threatened tht the Manch would approach court if the bereaved family is not provided justice at the earliest.

Among others, Manch general secretary Balkrishna Ghadai, president Rajendra Kumar Panda and Rudra Prasad Panda were present.
