OP Soni accuses teachers' unions for ‘using teachers for vested interests’

Tuesday, 13 November 2018 | PNS | SAS Nagar /Chandigarh

Mincing no words against the teachers’ unions leading protest against the Government, Punjab Education Minister OP Soni on Monday said that these unions are using teachers for their vested interests.

Soni, during a function to give away appointment letters to SSA and other societies teachers at Punjab School Education Board, said the State Government has given both options to the teachers to continue their services under the societies or take the opportunity to regularise their services in the Education Department.

Teachers, under a joint front of various unions, have been protesting since October 7 against the State Government’s proposal to regularise their services with a pay cut for first three years. The teachers have been demanding regularisation of their services with complete salary.

Later, Soni handed over the appointment letters to 650 teachers, who choose the option to regularise their services with the Education Department from Sarva Sikhya Abhiyan (SSA) and other societies.

Notably, the Punjab Government has issued the notification for regular appointments of teachers.

Till date, thousands of teachers, who clicked this option between October 8 and 23 have been given appointment letters.

Exhorting the teachers, Soni categorically said that newly appointed teachers would be given a choice to choose the stations.
